2015 Freedom 307 and finally adding Sirius radio for the offshore trips. The reception is terrible unless I somehow position the antenna on the top of the hard top canopy. I have not wired anything into the roof and was looking for any tips to mount a Sirius XM radio antenna on the roof and somehow get the antenna wire over to the XM module which is behind the radio on the port side of the boat. What hard top tube is used as the chase for the other wires? is it the straight tube near the helm? Any ideas if there is a way to access the underside of the canopy through the forward hard top lights? Just looking for some advice before tearing things apart.

Thanks

With a lot of the newer model, Grady has been mounting the sirius antenna in the bow on the port side. Not sure about you 307 as its a little different then my 305. However, when I mounted the antenna on my hard top. I mounted it over the electronics box and dropped the wire down into the Ebox, then down the wire tube into the console. That gave me access to the wire chases that run sideways in the boat. I was then able to run the wire through the case to the port side behind the cabinets in the galley and to the radio.

It may also not be a bad idea, to give grady and your local dealer service department a call. I have found the service guys very helpful with stuff like this. your not the first one to mount a sirius antenna.

I mounted my SIRIUS antenna inside the boat (underneath fiberglass) along the port side as far forward as I can get it. The FUSION unit is on the same side so the antenna run is easy. Reception is good.

SIRIUS reception is never perfect especially in cars. At the dock or on the trailer I have found spots or times when reception drops out. A moving boat changes the satellite views and works well.

Thank you. I called and emailed Grady but have not heard back or been able to get anyone on the phone just yet. I appreciate the insights on how to tackle this. I think I am going to attempt to get the antenna on the roof of the canopy (how hard can it be!!) I have tried threading the antenna to the bow and the stern on the port side of the boat beneath the fiberglass and it is still quite poor compared to friends boats where the antenna is on the roof.

The challenge on the freedom is that I don't think there is an electronics box in the ceiling of the canopy. There are speakers, lights, radar, VHF antenna and spotlight today and I think the wires are threaded down the chase tube which runs from the helm to the canopy.

I will let everyone know what I discover when I attempt it!

The straight pipe on the helm is the chase. You can pop off the center cover under the hard top. The one with the lights in it. Just take a screw driver and gently pry. Once you get one side popped off you can pull it down. Be careful as the wire to the lights will be attached. The control box for the sunshade(if you have one) is also in this space. There is a channel that runs across the front of the hard top where you can access the wires. The bolts for your radar (if you have one) are also behind that cover.
Good luck!

I’ve had great success with GW customer service on finding these hidden items. I had the base stereo system. When I upgraded I asked them for wiring diagram and they sent both the base and upgraded as well as the schematic for the rigging tubes which was a huge help in running wires.

I couldn’t find the control box for the sunshade to save my life. Finally asked and they told me where it was.

Thanks everyone. Super helpful. I will let everyone know how it goes!
