Hi,
I am in the final process of buying a 95 Grady Tournament. I would like to know if the 95 yamaha has any facility for fresh water flushing. I am concerned about the ability of the water to get past the thermostat. If not, I presume running at idle with a muff is the only method. Any comments are welcome.
Thanks

There is a common misconception that when the t-stats are closed, no water flows into the cooling chambers. Water does flow and if it didn't the motor would overheat in a hurry. How much water flows depends to a large degree on the flow rate and water pressure of the supply hose.
Your motor should have the flush port. A key question is not so much does it have a flush port but rather did the previous owner use it especially if the boat was in salt water.

Although the Yami manual says not to run the motor on the flush port , some folks do and as long as you have water coming out of the pee hole and don't run too hard, that flushing works. I have done both but prefer not running the motor since when I flush, I often go off to do something else like wash the deck or unload gear, etc. I don't recommend running and flushing if you are not going to be at the helm just in case an alarm goes off.
