Fuel Line Replacement for 2000 Hpdi

I have a 2000 Seafarer with a 200 Hpdi. I have been reading of many issues with E10 fuels
breaking down fuel lines! haven't had any issues yet but was wondering what thoughts
others have

I didn't like the way my FMS sending units were mounted and rerouted some lines this Spring. The original line I removed was in perfect shape. In fact the new 3/8" Shields fuel line I used had a thinner wall thickness than the OEM fuel line, probably 1/8" larger on the OD. Don't think you have a problem. Have you change over to a Racor 2-micron fuel filter for that HPDI??

No didn't convert to the racor! Again haven't had any issues yet but willing to do the appropriate
maintenance items to prevent issues in the future. Is this a fix I can do or do you recommend a
Yamaha mechanic? Need to find a good one on the NJ shore.

All the lines are 12 years old I guess. Take a look at the external condition. I would be more concerned about the fuel fill and vent first and than the line form the filter to the bulb/engine. That line is not too bad to replace but the fill/vent can be a major task. At this point if you have been using E10 for several years, the issue is not so much the effect of ethanol but rater age in general.
 
I haven't replaced the fill hose but did replace the vent hose on main and aux. tank , you are right it was a bear to replace. I had to cut an access hole for the aux.one as it has a slightly larger O.D. than the orig. . The main was was much easier. Had I known how tough it was I would quit using the Aux. tank.
 
Dan, you have standard 11/16" threads on your filter housing. The Racor PN for 2-micron filter is S3220SUL. I bought 4-from Green Marin in Houston for about $20 each. You will need a bowl. It's a one time purchase and reused when replacing the elements. I don't like the clear plastic bowl with the spring loaded drain and went ahead and bought an aluminum bowl with a drain bolt, PN RK30473-02 Think is was about $30. The plastic bowl is a lot cheaper. Yea, it's an expensive fuel filter but get bit in the ass with dirty fuel and :bang.
If you want to loose a little sleep tonight get on THT forum and search "HPDI Mystery Filters" The thread got so long that they started a "Part 2". There are about 4-6 filter screens in various places on the HPDI's that clog. Problem is the best Yamaha filter is 10-microns and all those screens are 2-microns. The ethanol starts cleaning your 12-year old tank and well, you know the rest. Might want to also search 2-micron Racors and I think you'll see most guys with HPDI's are running 2-micron fuel seps. I really love the HPDI's and wish I had a pair but they are real sensitive to clean fuel.

I replaced my original filter heads with SS and the racor 2 microns and change every 50 hours. Check out SIM YAMAHA's site for the setup. He has the whole package and they turned out very nice. S3220SUL with clear bowl and SS head to replace the old rusty ones.

Replaced all fuel lines last winter. Original's in my '92 model were overall in very good shape, inside and out. I read somewhere that fuel lines in last 10 years were mostly up to speed with ability to handle ethanol, but those hoses (build in usa) that came from original manuf. were really good hoses, but I replaced due to age and insurance against any ethanol issues.

Also stay religious on using Startron and Ring Free PLUS which is what combats the oxidation in the HPDI filter systems. So far, so good and hope this preventive measures pays off.
