Does anybody know if I can use a Northstar GPS antenna with a Furuno VX1. If so is there anything special I need to do. I've seen someone advertising a used VX1 with one of these antennas so presume they should match? Any help appreciated
I'm gong to assume you mean the original NavNet. I don't know why they called it the VX2, when there wasn't ever a 1. Lol. I have the same unit. I have the 320B antenna on mine. But, from what I've seen, as long as it has a NMEA-0183 plug on it, you're good. Just change the setting to "any", or whatever it says in the GPS settings screen.
Thanks for the tips. The Northstar antennas are coax type so no good but rather than buy a new antenna I've found I can pull the info off a Garman GPS I also have mounted. The VX1 though has rather than an everyday card, it has one with a couple of rows of 20 odd + little pins. Are you able to over ride an unwanted nav card to copy info? or do you need a special card for these? One machine is Navionics and the other is Cmap.
It uses a Furuno Classic card, with either C-Map or Navionics loaded on it. One of these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Navionics-Class ... 2c6dfbc62f I believe you can wipe the card, and have the correct data loaded on it. At least the guy at West Marine told me he his chart supplier could do it. They just need to know what machine you have, and what software is on the machine. Mine is Version 2.0. When you startup the machine, it should say what version it's running.
Thanks for that. I have 2 of these VX1 10.5" navnet machines. The one I want to take my marks off is using a C-Map card (which I want to keep with that machine)and the new used one I've just bought, I want to load the info onto is using a Navionics card (which is a USA area card not Australia). I gather one data card will copy my marks from one machine to the other no problem and if I'm understanding you right, the guy you know may be able to erase the present map and put an Australian map onto the same Navionics card I have? This would be good. The data cards are obsolete here now so the ebay link will be useful thanks unless your electronics guy can do my nav card and also sell me one of these blank data cards at the same time? Do you have contact details for them.
Sorry, I didn't even realize you're in Australia. I'm pretty sure the waypoints get saved to the machine, not the card. Look at the features tab on the Furuno website. It says it saves up to 1000 waypoints. http://www.furunousa.com/Products/Produ ... duct=1833C I don't personally know the guy from West Marine. He was just explaining how new, up to date, charts can be loaded on an old card. I'm sure anyone in your area that deals with Navionics can load the charts for you.
