garmin - 2 transducers?

I have an old 235S sounder on my boat. When I bought the boat it came with the unit and had 2 hull-mounted transducers. I think one or both have gone bad because the unit has suddenly lost the ability to measure depth. I've checked both and they are locked down all the way.

Does anyone know why there would be 2 transducers?

If the depth finder stopped working but the chartplotter still works fine does that suggest that the transducers have gone bad or come loose?

What's a general price (incl. labor) for installing a new depth/chartplotter? My boat is a 20' grady adventure and I'm on the North Shore of MA if that helps.

Thanks
Andre

no reason to have 2 transom mounted ducers for one GPS/sounder system....looks like the ex-owner just decided to leave it or he had a spare GPS on board...I have the latter set-up...2 ducers, 2 GPS's...
