Does anyone have a Garmin GPSmap 7612 xsv in good working order that they've removed for an upgrade that they'd be interested in selling? Mine needs the LCD screen replaced and Garmin does not have parts available.
Let's compare...
West Marine 7612xsv Refurbished by Garmin 1-year factory warranty $2,999.88
eBay Seller 7612xsv used no-warranty. 30-day returns buy pays shipping. $2,197.00
"Display was just removed from service as owner changed to bigger screens, please note there are a couple of mounting holes chipped, still can be flush mounted. Besides that it is in good shape and working as it should "
"Unit only. there are no cables or accessories included"
"Located in Fort Lauderdale"
This eBay listing is a prime example of what to watch out for with used electronics. Located in Fort Lauderdale (#2 boat and electronics theft Capital with Miami being #1), unit damaged when removed, no cables, box or documentation even though customer went to a bigger screen, no factory warranty (but you can return for refund at your expense for 30 days).
There were 3 other eBay listings for 7612xsv's all over $2,000 with similar stories. For me the $800 difference would buy a lot to peace of mind.
Or as Mustang said above you can get a refurbished 8612xsv for around $3,000. The 8612xsv is a better unit with higher screen resolution than the 7612xsv. Also consider 1243xsv - a current model comparable to the 7612xsv.
I appreciate the warning in the first line of your note above; I did some checking regarding "Fish Trail Boating Gear" and it appears to be a scam. Here's some notes; maybe this'll help others:Be careful buying off Great Grady forum. Fraudsters will likely Private Message you with an incredible deal "too good to be true and probably is!". I wouldn't buy unless it's a local sale that you can touch and see.
I have had good success with eBay. You still need to be careful. When I see units being sold without cables or accessories I immediately think it's probably stollen. Garmin units have non-resettable security locks too that make the unit useless (except maybe for parts). eBay seller has to have good feedback and lots of sales to feel good that they will take the unit back if it's not right.
I have 8610xsv (new) and 8612xsv (dealer demo). New 943xsv for a while and sold on eBay. I wouldn't buy an expensive unit like a 8612xsv or 7612xsv without some kind of warranty. Buy a refurb. Consider the 8612xsv as well -about the same size - not as wide - touch screen only.
I have no safety opinion or connection to the following:

Two Garmin 8612xsv (refurbished) - fishtrailboatinggear.com
We have two Garmin 8612xsv units for sale that are brand new (refurbished), received directly from Garmin. Both units were installed and then immediately taken out before being used in an Everglades 295cc. The previous owner decided to trade them for the Garmin 8616 after seeing them installed...fishtrailboatinggear.com
Also see Garmin factory refurbs available from West Marine.
Thanks for the input. The THT unit is exactly what I need. Verifying the legitimacy of the seller will be the challenge. And, as was said above, is it worth spending that much on older technology with support being phased out by Garmin? It'll give me some things to think about.I had a 7408xsv on my RIB and it was a good unit, but then i added a 8410 and it was faster with a better UI.
The biggest problem i see with a 7xxx series is that Garmin stopped firmware updates in 2021.
I would buy one vor very cheap and on a budget, but not for the prices others mentioned above.
There is a company in Florida who replaces the screen on the NavNet plotters i had when i bought the Venture 34.
I did not had the screen replaced as it was ways too expensive to sip the huge and heavy NavNet plotter to US and back to Costa Rica,
however, if i remember correctly the replacement was acceptable 800$.
OP may do a search for Furuno NavNet II screen replacement to see if the company still exist and if they could do his 7612.
Chris
EDIT: i just stumbled over a 7612xsv in THT, however same caution is needed when buying used ones, meeting seller is best.
