thx. basic question is will an internal antennae maintain accuracy under a hardtop, within the piping supports and then within an electronics enclosure down at the helm. vis a vis mobile phone reception near a tower versus some distance away coupled with terrain issues.

i'll be running an n2k backbone to the radio box so if there is an issue i'll drop in the 24xd. thx, ron

Why don't you use the GPS 19x that you already have? This is Garmin's top of the line GPS receiver.

I installed a GPS 24xd yesterday. It replaced a GPS 17x NEMA 2000 that is on the hardtop. One small screw to remove and pop the new antenna in. Used old base and cable. I needed a heading sensor and was having a hard time finding a place to mount it so I decided to upgrade the GPS antenna and put it up top.

Garmin ships all its GPS antennas with an under the hardtop mount. I think you will be just fine.
