hello I have a 89 overnighter were can I find the vent for the gas tank, someone told me it could be clogged , opened deck and could not find one :?:

If you still have the deck open, follow the vent line(the smaller line next to the fill line) from the tank. The vent should be on the side of the boat usually below the filler cap or you have the combination fill and vent filler cap.

It's going to look like a small clamshell, angled aft and downwards a bit. As noted above, it should be on the hull side, a bit below the fuel fill. They can get clogged with wax, etc and also spiders and such like to build little nests in there. A toothbrush is helpful - just make sure you put it back when you are done and NEVER tell the person what you used it for!

If the fuel system has has been overhauled, the vent could be inside the fuel cap. Most of the newer ones are there. If you are having a vent problem with suction, just leave the fuel cap off or loose and if the problem goes away, it's most likely the vent. If problem persists, it's not likely the vent unless it's a problem with filling the tank. If the tank is burping when you try to fill it, then it could still be the vent.

thanks for all the help, will check next time I"am down on the boat, one more ? I read that if you have a 200 horse or better you should have a bigger fuel line and bulb, I have a 200 optimax saltwater and have a 3/8 line and bulb should I consider putting a bigger fuel line and bulb on ? is the gas vent above my swim platform?

I wouldn't, my 225 Honda has a 3/8ths. The fuel vent, if not integral with the fuel fill, will most likely be on the hull below the fuel fill and just below the rub rail. It's a pressure equalizer for the tank - as fuel goes in, air has to escape. As fuel goes out, air has to enter ...

got down to the boat pulled deck up, this is what I found a fill line going into the tank and fuel line going to the bulb and motor no vent going into the tank I looked everywhere so my ? is how is this tank venting, if you can help I would appreciate it!

On mine the vent is on top of the FRONT of the tank. Remove the round hatch cover on the floor at the helm...you should see the hose...follow to vent tube on he tank. Might need to remove the floor panel to access the vent and remove the hose...I'd blow compressed air thru the hose to make sure it's clear.
