1991 703 contols. Had a 1991 175 Yamaha on my Grady 190 Tournament and just repowered it with a 2001 Ox 66 150HP. The original control has the separate choke. Obviously, the choke is non functional as this is a fuel injected motor. The gauges will not turn off when the switch is off. I suspect the switch is bad. Does not appear that the original switch without the choke is available non-oem. Since the choke will not be functional, is it possible to replace the switch with the push to choke switch as they are available non-oem at one forth the price. Will the switch wiring be the same, and just not wire up the choke?

More likely it is wired incorrectly. Seems like you have power hard wired to the gauges. Maybe you connected to the wrong side of the switch.

Thanks for the input but the controls and wiring harness were not changed out. The tack is turning off sometimes when the key turns off, but the speedometer/fuel gauge will not turn off when the key is off. Somehow the gauges are getting back fed with power. That is why I was thinking the switch may be going bad...
It should be pretty easy to see if the switch is supplying power when in the off position.
Let me know what gauges you have and I will try to look up the wiring particularly where the gauge power comes from.
FYI, I have the switch with the choke position on my boat that has the OX66. It does nothing but the boat was rigged that way from birth. In your case the wiring may be different.
When you turn on the battery switches, do the gauges power up before you turn the ignition switch? If so, can you hear the fuel pump working? ( it may be tough to hear it) if it is working, you have ignition power to the motor but shouldn't since the ignition switch is off).

Sorry for the delay in responding. The gauges do not power up when the battery is turned on. They only power up when you turn on the ignition switch, but they do not turn off when the ignition switch is turned off. These are the original 1991 round guages.
I think the yellow wire coming from the switch is what is supposed to provide power to the gauges when the switch is on.
Are you sure they are powered off. Some analog gauges don't always move the needle to the low reading when turned off. How do you know that they power up when the ignition is turned on if they don't turn off when the ignition is turned off?
The gauges are not analog, they are the round yamaha digital gauges. One gauge has speed, fuel level, trip odometer ,and time. The other gauge is tachometer, tilt & trim gauge, and oil and temp warnings. The back lighting on these gauges comes on properly when the running lights are turned on.

If the gauges are off, you see no tilt display or fuel level display. ( The bars on the right) When you turn on the ignition, you should see the gauges go through self test ( all segments display for a short time) and then the actual readings.
