Hi Everyone,

I have a 2005, 330 Express which needs a diesel generator replacement.

I am trying to get away from replacing it with a Fisher Panda and was wondering if anyone could reommend another make/model that would physically fit into the boat given the tight clearances.

Thank you.

Jim

Good morning Jim,

I have a 2007 330 Express and the Fisher Panda was replaced last year with a Next-Gen marine generator. So far so good with it and I haven't had any issues. It sits in an enclosure that helps mitigate some sound and vibration. My boat is also located in RI if you wanted to see it.

I'd do some research and look for size compatible units. I'm sure there are a few out there by now.

Who did your install? I’m prepping to do my NextGen soon.

I had it done at Safe Harbor in Westbrook, CT. They had a tech that specialized in generators and made a pretty easy swap for me.

Depending on how you use it, you might consider replacing with an inverter and Lithium Ion battery bank. I don't use much 110v power (no Air Con use) and I replaced my FP with a Mastervolt inverter + small battery bank for a small fraction of a new genset. Couldn't be happier!

I'm certain this will be the future even for serious 110v power use.

Wound replacing it with a brand new diesel NextGen UCM1-3.5.

Did everything with Scott at Noreast Marine Services out of Fairhaven who is a NextGen dealer. Scott came to where I store the boat in Allens Harbor, RI and was great to work with. Crystal in the office was great to work with too.

Great to hear, has 3.5kw been enough from the 5kw? The main thing I’m worried about is running the AC. Considering nextgen or a phaser 4.5kw

Nice. Let us know how she performs.

Old post but I just aquired a lightly used next gen UCM1-3.5 for my '04 330 express. It's a 2014 model with 350 hours on it. It was swapped out of a larger boat because it was too small for them. So far I have test run it in my shop and she's a runner lol. Changed the impeller, air filter, water pump belt., and engine oil

My 330 had the fischer Panda 4.2 in it when I bought it in 2021. It was beyond repair so I parted it out. I did notice what nobody ever mentions about this swap: it's a tight fit. It's about 6" longer side to side, 1" wider front to back...yet shorter. Basically, it's a longer/wider/shorter than the Panda. The Panda was a tight fit to begin with.

I'm still in my prep process but here's what I had to do on my specific boat:

-Move the Diesel tank further toward the Starboard side stringer. On my boat they mounted it 6" off that. There's a substantial wiring harness there so you only net about 2-3" moving it. but it's needed.

-Relocate the raw water pump for the AC.

Of course, I'm in the "might as well" stage... might as well replumb the sea strainers/seacocks for the gen and AC. I can't say for sure if they were done this way from the factory or if someone changed them along the way but i was sketched out by the use of Nylon/Thin plastic fittings on the seacocks/strainers. A failure here puts you on the bottom. Not sure if I'm doing the right thing but I'm changing them all out to bronze. new hoses too.

Also, I'm never getting the next gen harness all the way to the breaker panel to mount the control where the FP control was but the 12v control wires for the FP are still there and I'm going to attempt to use them. Otherwise, I will mount the next gen gauge/switch above the breakers on the port side walking down into the cabin.
