is it possible to install a gen set on this model boat. I was thinking about the area under the captains chair that you acess through the head.

Get a Honda EU2000i. Search on this and you will find lots of posts.

Installing an internal combustion engine in a closed compartment on your vessel changes all the rules regarding forced ventilation, etc. Not worth it.

I installed a 6,500-BTU reverse-cycle A/C on our boat, and the EU2000 runs it all day and all night..

JMHO,
Brian

Ya keep it outside like those little honda gens. If the Coast Gaurd caught you with one mounted like that they would freak out big time.

Go with the Honda EU200i and mount it on the bow in the walkway, should fit perfectly and is out of the way, and it is quiet and will run all night. I looked into adding a fixed generator on my boat in my stbd side helm seat, after pricing the main parts I aborted, not worth it, the generator itself is a bit more then the honda, add more if it needs to be plumbed for cooling, and add ventilation equipment to it, it was well beyond the price of the Honda and would take up a bit of my storage space I would rather use for other things.

I'd be hesitant to mount a genset upwind as the boat will lay bow into the breeze at night. The exhaust will be blown back towards the cabin, cabin door, helm area, etc. Probably better off to be placed downwind near the transom or better yet, place it on the swim platform/ladder.

Honda 2kw--------------------> Yeah baby!

I understand your thoughts, but mounting a genset on my swim platform is a bad idea, it sits 3inches off the water at the dock, I intend to use it 85nm offshore where it will likely be splashing in the water, I think that would be far worse. I know many guys who mount them on the bow and have not heard a ton of issues with this Generator thus far, I do not think it gives off exhaust gases like some bigger generators will. I agree it is something to monitor, a carbon monoxide detector in the cabin or by the helm should work well enough to alert us of any problems. I usually have the back canvas fully up, so unless there is no wind at all there is a lot of air circulating in my helm area.

Good point.........I have never done so, but my buddy was planning to place it on the swim platform/ladder but that would have been in a calm anchorage in the Bahamas!

Perhaps put it on the cockpit floor and against the transom door with the exhaust pointing out the back?

I cannot do that either, I do not have a transom door, my engines are mounted directly to a notched transom on the 165 express. also, not ideal to have the generator in the cockpit while working angry 80 lb tuna and having hooks, gaffs and flopping fish. I'd think somehow that would end bad. I have thought about the down sides, but it really seems to be my only option. I plan to just keep the helm well ventilated and add a Carbon monoxide detector incase there is a build up so we can either shut it down or make changes. My helm is very open and typically had excellent circulation.
