Been thinking about repowering my 1995 192. It has a 150 Yamaha carb motor. WOT is about 40 mph and that is fine with me and really it has good power out of the hole. Anyone repower with a Suzuki 150, 175 or a 200? what is the difference in performance from 150-200 hp?
 
I don't have a good answer for you, just posting because I also have a 150 2 stroke (Yamaha) on my 192 (it's a 2002)... I can get it to around 45 mph and it runs like a top. But I'm also interested to see opinions on this since I love the boat and would consider repowering as opposed to trading it in at some point.
 
I have a 1994 192 with a 150 Yammy that stills runs perfect and scoots along at 45 knots as well and it is great out of the hole so I am wondering why you would want to repower if you are happy with it??? although I can Imagine my 192 would flat out fly with a 200 and that would be cool but that is alot of cash to lay out just to go a little faster I would use the money for other things
 
I have been having some problems lately with my motor but I think that I have the ironed out now. Just been thinking about a new motor. My old motor is running good now just uses a lot of gas and oil. I know I can buy a lot of gas for 14k-15k.
 
I had a 192 and repowered from a Johnson Ocean Runner 150 to a Yamaha F150. My fuel economy doubled going from a carb motor to a fuel injected. The boat performed well with a 150 and I think you would motiveaube better hole shot when loaded and such. Let's be honest, unless you are in a lake or river, running WOT in coastal areas does not happen a lot.

I think if you repower you won't be disappointed in either a 150 or 200 modern 4 stroke. Your gas consumption will be greatly improved.
 
I'd consider weight as much as HP. You don't want to increase it too much given age and wood coring of the transom. Depends how you use the boat, but I'd be more than happy with a 150 4-stroke on the back.
 
Etec G1 135 HP HO which is about 150 HP faster lighter !
 
Back in 1991 I bought a new Tournament 190 with a Yamaha 200. Used that engine for about 14 years until I "upgraded" to a F150. With the 200 (carbed) motor, if I trimmed it way up I could get maybe 50-52 mph, however it was very loosey goosey at that speed. Alot of chine walk. Everyone else at my marina who had a 190 or 192 ran it with a 150 hp. It was more of a status symbol for me in my younger days to have a bigger engine than everyone else. When I switched to the F150 I was SO much happier with the quieter engine, better mileage, no oil tank and only a few mph's drop in speed. With the 200 2 stroke my scuppers were always above the water line. With the 150 4 stroke my scuppers were half below the water line with no one in the boat.
 
I put a Etec G1 150 on my 1994 192 last year and it has worked out great.
Tops out at 45 mph with great hole shot.
