I'm glad that nobody was injured or hurt. Trying to guess if the boat could have been saved and the steps that could have been taken is good if used as a learning experience for all of us however the Captain did the right thing in saving the crew. Everything else can be reduced to dollars and most of those dollars belong to the insurance company. Good job Captain!!!

I would guess that the bilge pump had been working for some time and with the engines running nobody noticed it. This is somewhat the same problem I had with the bilge pump float switch sticking open and the pump running continuously. Had I known the pump was running I could have done something about it.

To solve my problem I am going to install a bright LED on the dash and wire it in-line with the wire from the battery to the float switch so that I know when the pump is running. Maybe if the Captain had known the pump was running continuously he could have done something about it before he had a bilge full of water.
