Dear guys, I am evaluating the purchase of a GW 270 with a single F250. I am concerned about the power on this big boat. What do you think about it?
Thanks in advance,
Ben

We must be looking a the same boat in Islamorada, FL??
Everything I've read, and folks that I've spoken to say it's under powered.
Heck, I have the same F250 on my Adventurer 208! Granted that is more than adequate for the 208, I just think it will be tough to get that 270 on plane if you have 4-6 people on board, and full tank of gas.
Might be ok with just a couple and calm conditions!
Twin 150's, or maybe a new F300/350 would be a better choice!

Yes, I think we are looking at the same boat. I have some doubts about the engine. I often fish at the canyons far 20 to 40 nms from the coast and more power should be needed.. I have seen the test numbers with a 2stroke 250hp and they look not so bad.. maybe an e-tec 300hp would push the boat better with its higher torque.

Fort Myers Beach, FL
Model
Islander
Boat is marginal with a 250HP OX66. That was the way we purchased our boat new, and put 465 hours on it in three seasons. Repowered in Oct 2005 and it is a different boat. Over 1500 hours on the F150s now.

I think the 268/270 Islander is good with the new 300-HP Yamaha as a single.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was looking at the torque diagram if the e-tec vs yamaha and it is unbelievable. Maybe this boat needs for more torque, so I thought that a e-tec 300hp could fit nicely on the Islander?
