I am repowering my 2005 Gulfstream with a new Yamaha F300 mechanical and am planning to add a kicker, either a 9.9 or 15 hp high thrust Yamaha. I gather from the Forum that 9.9 hp is enough but 15 hp would be quieter. I fish in Vancouver so can be windy and thought 15 hp would also be better when going vs. waves and current. I would like to add it to the swim platform on the starboard side and am looking for advice/experience with doing this. It will have electronic start and tilt and I plan to connect it to the hydraulic steering. I assume I will need to have them add a support bracket. I have attached a picture of my transom. Thanks for any advice/experience anyone might have.

I've got a 9.9 susuki on my seafarer and find it's a bit loud but pushes the boat fine. I had a few interesting moments at the mouth of the fraser last September so I switched to the big motor as needed.

9.9 and 15s often weigh nearly the same so that shouldnt be a problem. Yamaha doesn't make a 15 high thrust at the moment.

For what it's worth I've seen a few sailfish in nootka sound with 9.9s.
