I was just told by a GW owner that his porta potti is plumbed thru a macerator pump for an overboard discharge. I was not aware of this feature. I thought conventional marine heads were the only fixture designed to discharge overboard. Can anyone confirm this? Do the marine toilets discharge to a holding tank prior to going overboard. I had an Ocean Alexander years ago and the toilets discharged to a holding and the overboard valve had to be secured in the off position in Puget sound..
 
I've never heard of a direct overboard in a GW from the factory. There is either a porta poty where the refuse needs to be dumped by the owner (self contained) or either a manual flush or vacuflush into a holding tank. The tank will have a valve that allows the macerator to pump overboard if opened and the pump is turned on.
I guess someone could install one just about any way after market. I would assume you would be in big dodo, pun intended if the CG ever caught you with a direct overboard (with no tank). The rules are pretty strict now especially with harbors, waterways and even bays the size of cape code bay being no discharge zones.
 
My boat has a porti potty that is plumbed for overboard discharge through a macerator. Need to be out 3 miles to use it. Otherwise valves get switched to use it like a holding tank and pump-out at the marina. If you are inshore you need to make sure the valves are in the correct position if you get stopped.
 
I had a Gulfstream that had a Port Poti that was connected to a macerator. The PortaPotti becomes the holding tank and the macerator automaticaly pumps it out. The Laws in Mass are different now about pumping out into Cape Cod Bay. The set up did have a Y valve that allowed for discharge into pump out station. It was factory installed.
 
I have a 1995 Adventure 208 with a porta potti, deck pump out and y-valve with macerator pump factory installed. I make sure to have the valve wired closed with a large cable tie when near shore.
 
Our boat came plumbed with a porti-head with macerator and deck pump out. I just wish grady would have labeled the Y valve better which is open and closed between the two. :wink: We have used the portipotty offshore, especially when the ladies where fishing with us. We use it on the lake when the kids need it and Lake Fontana has a marina with a pump out, it is nice, but I wish we had the ability to have a full size head and tank.
 
our trophy pro had the same setup....so i removed the head and filled the hole in the hull....no more wives on fishing trips :lol:
 
Call me crazy, but I like taking the admiral fishing when she wants to go. She enjoys driving the boat while we troll which means I can rig the bait, kick back a little...I suspect you are just having some internet fun :wink:
