Hi friends

I'm taking delivery of my boat (freedom 255) in may. I did not order the boat with hull/bottom paint as I plan to rack the boat - although I'm having second thoughts. Do you think/recommend hull/bottom paint as a necessity/recommendation when a boat will be racked (used and racked - although it will likely sit overnight at times in the slip before being racked in the am).

If so, this wouldn't be a factory paint job as the boat has already been delivered to my dealer, but a dealer after market paint job.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Best,

Brian

It's not necessary to paint the bottom with antifouling paint if it will just be sitting in the water overnight. If you plan to leave it in the water for weeks, and longer, then yes.
Antifouling paint will slow you down a little, and might possibly be a negative to a future owner when you try to sell the boat.
If you plan to keep it in a dry rack storage, it's not necessary. Just be sure they clean it well, when removing it from the water. If you are in an area that has lots of tannins in the water, and you get a bad yellow/brown stain, just have it cleaned once or twice a year with a hull cleaner, and seal, and wax it!

If your going to use it then wash it then rack it I would say NO to the bottom paint. keeping the boat clean and waxed will protect it and sitting overnight in the ater wont hurt it. use the money you would have spent on paint on something else.

Smart decision and sound advice from all. No need to paint the bottom of that boat if she is stored on land after each outing. Also agree that you could go a week in the water without issues. Enjoy the new Grady!
