Hello,
I would like to know what type of of steering systems some of you have for twin outboards say from 250 hp and up?
Single piston, dual piston? Size helm?

What setup would you recommend for non-power assisted twins?

Thanks,
VC

We have a single steering cylinder and smaller (F150) twins.

Most of the written guidance I have seen indicates single cylinder for up to 300HP total. After that, it should be twin cylinders.

You would need twin cylinders for the situation you are considering.

Hi,
I have twin F250s and they come with dual piston steering. I also have the power assist (additional pump) and it works great. I did have a recall on the pump that was covered under warranty a few years ago. The dealer swapped it out.

I have twin F225 and it has a single piston - just had to replace the seals on the piston - other than that works great

Give the folks at SeaStar a call. They will be glad to help. I have a Single piston system on twin 150s that uses a link-Bar. As stated --- You will need to go to a dual piston set-up.
