Digging out the wood in my transom I ran across a brittle white ceramic like filler substance in the top and bottom.

Does anyone know if this is something that grady would have used during construction or am I replacing someone elses transom job.

This is what I recall from touring the factory a few years back. I watched a 2 piece boat being put together. Fiberglass strips soaked in resin were layed where the two pieces joined, the deck was lowered and there was some type of adhesive or fairing compound used in the transom area as well just prior to mating. I couldn't tell what it was to be honest. Once together there was some thru bolting and then was told after setting the rub rail would be installed. Someone here should be able to tell us.
