Does anyone know how to raise the idle on a F225? One motor is at 500RPMs and should be at 700RPMs.

Is this something that needs to be done by a Yamaha mechanic? Mine idles about 500 rpms as well and lately coming off a plane down to neutral the engine will shutter a little bit and then idle like normal. Sometimes it shutters too when kicking it in gear. It should be at about 700 rpm, correct?

Thanks.

700 rpm at idle strikes me as bit high. A Yammi dealer once told me that about half of the EPA emissions test occurs at idle speed. That, he said, is at least partly why the idle is set low at the factory.

Anyone else hear that story? If true, might some techs be reluctant to raise the idle?

you will need a good tach or YDS

do not raise your throttle to more than spec, unless you want to replace the lower unit clutch dog a lot
