Installing Radar - Looking for Tips

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a Garmin 741xs with GMR 18HD Radar.

Before I start drilling holes, I'd like to hear of any installation lessons learned and tips.

My understanding is the installs are plug and play but want to avoid amateur mistakes.
 
I assume you have a hardtop?

I'd recommend putting the radar on a Seaview mount, that extra 5" of height might not get you much in terms of range, but will greatly enhance the radar's ability to auto gain for small objects as much less of the beam will be reflected off the hardtop.
 
Get the XHD. The HD is outdated and not sure how long Garmin will service them for.

The 741 is a nice unit.

Installation is EZ. Read the manual.
