Let's suppose an oldster no longer has the best back and will want to lean against the bolster most of the time underway, relying on knees for shock absorbers. But the knees, while better than the back, aren't what they used to be either.

This is more of a sports support type question rather than something more serious, like a post-surgery problem (so far anyway).

Can anyone recommend knee sleeves or other support that may help for a day on the water? Asking for a friend. :)

I installed a convertible helm seat a few years back. The front to the seat can flip up and convert to a leaning post or high seat with foot rest. The seat back is reversible so you can flip forward and look back while fishing. Really works week to keep the load off your legs and back. Quite comfortable. Av bailable from West Marine, Fisherman's Supply and a few others.

Thanks, but I think the swivel chairs with footrests and flip-up bolsters are standard for the captain and mate.

Had last december a partial knee implant as right knee suddenly got so bad arthrosis that i could barely walk or stand up.
I tried several things, different knee support "socks", a knee tutor (metallic structure to strap on lower and upper leg without reasonable success.
Not sure what your problem is so one of the above may works for you.
A anti-fatigue carpet on the helm station can work wonders if standing for long time and there are some reasonable nice ones on the market.
Problem may be that the UV rays will deteriorate them rather quick, but most kitchen ones are not particular expensive.

Others show up when google for boat marine anti fatigue mats

I would not choose one to glue on, a heavy one will stay in place just fine.
