I have a Grady 252 Sailfish that was struck by lightning at the dock couple of days ago. It hit the VHF antenna and doestroyed it. I have twin 200 Yamahas on the back. I am getting a constant beep with the keys in position 1 and 2. The engines will turn but won't start. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem. Almost everything else on the boat works fine. Are there any main fuses or fuseblock that I may have missed. I have been looking but can't find any blown fuses except the one for the VHF radio. Please HELP !!!

If you changed all the fuses on the engines and they still will not kick it may be time for a Yami Cert. mechanic time. Unless you have all the wiring schematics and access to a lot of spare parts, you'll be going in circles.

Are you getting spark?

Did you check the power going into the engine with a meter? what voltage do they read...it is possible the strike burned out batteries, or on some Yamaha engines there is a metal link in the main line going to the engine that will actually burn out if ther eis a voltage overload keeping the engine from being damaged, I do not think 4 strokes have it but 2 strokes should if my dealer had given me correct information. As stated above, have an experienced mechanic work on it, I had an electrical problem with one of my engines and wasted 4 days trying to find it myself and ended up hiring someone to do it, 2 hours later I was running again and have been since. As stated above, I would notify your insurance to cover yourself and tell them the engines are not running now so they are aware and keep them in the loop, it could be something easy but you never know when it is an electrical issue.

Check the kill switch first. It probably isn't the problem but it is easier to check than engine things.
If the motors crank, it isn't a power to the motor issue. There are fuses under the engine cowling also. Check the owners manual.

Just wondered what the outcome was here........? I have been around quite e few T/storms in our summer months and have always worried about the potential probs.

I would like to know the outcome of this problem also. Have you gotten the problem fixed? If so, what was damaged? Hope you will log back on and let us know.

my 200 OX66 has a fuse under the cowling. Don't know what it runs to.
