Looking for ICW tips

Looking for any tips when running the ICW up from Wanchese NC, what types of speeds do boats generally run, is there a lot junk floating, is there anything too look out for? Possibly getting a boat and would run it from there up into the Chesapeake Bay towards Annapolis. Any tips would be great.

I can't help you because I never navigated north of the sound.. I have traveled the ICW near Wanchese. It was fine a couple years ago. I have long wanted to boat through the Dismal swamp . It's pretty from the pictures. I have read some Great Looper threads in THT and it appears in places your charts could be wrong as some of the ICW is subject to shoaling pretty badly. I think that is the critical piece of local knowledge you want to find out and maybe a cruising forum would be the place to start?
