I have a year 2000 208 Adventure.

The horn has been trouble free since new, until today!!

I tried to use the horn today and it would not work. The horn made a low-sounding noise when I hit the horn switch (so I believe the electrical connections to be good), but the horn would not blow.

What types of service have you done on horns? What is an expected life of a factory installed horn?

The 208 horn is exterior mounted ahead of the windshied on the starboard side.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate.

Cheers,

You could try cleaning the salt and corrosion out of it, just take the cover off. Sometimes some WD or metal protector will get them going again. Otherwise you just put a new one on, they're cheap. Any good marine supply will have them.

There should be enough wire to pull the connection out and crimp the new one on. Seal good with 42/5200.

And don't spray water into it!

Try wacking it with a small mallet or hammer while holding the switch on. Sometimes you can get the buzzer contacts to self clean. The horn itself is not that expensive, about $40 if I remeber correctly. There may also be an adjustment screw that sets the contact pressure but I am not 100% certain of that. The horns don't last forever.

The horn on my 192 filled with water from the huge amount of rain this spring/early summer. It sounded like a goat in labor. I dried it out and it started sounding fine again.
