While running back to the harbor the other day the port side engine 1994 175 hp merc the rpms ran up . so I pulled back on the gas the engine runs fine but no thurst forward or reverse . I have not gotten back to check it out yet, I will in the next couple of days but does anyone have any thoughts .does it sound like a prop hub or a lower unit gear issue?

trim motor up

get a grease or permanent marker, draw a line from hub of prop straight to the prop shaft

go run the boat

line better be straight

Spun prop. It it was the lower unit, it wouldn't be quiet. I had one partially go. The prop would hold at idle and just above but when given gas it would slip.
