I have the factory standard LMS-350a on my NEW (pre-owned) 1995 Grady White 26 Islander. Does anyone know if this is a decent unit, or should I replace? Does that factory mounted sonar, and speed units on the hull match up with the new Lowrances/Raymarine/Etc.? Seems like this will be a real headache to replace if I replace the head unit.

LMS 350a

Great unit as long as you don't need or want color. Had mine for 10 years and a friend is still using it. It was no problem replacing just tied onto the old unit and pulled the wires through the tubing

I was using a globalmap 1200 combo last year, manufactured in 2002. found it to be too slow and inaccurate. Almost got me stuck in the mud a few times. Plus no more updates avail for the older models. If you start to venture into unfamiliar water it may not be your best friend compared to a current chart amd knowledge of the water ways.
The new stuff is able to use flash cards that are updated every year and can support enhanced graphics and information, weather, currents, ect.
although, you have to pay for it , it is better than buying a whole new unit when you need updated charts and information.
I tossed mine for a new Standard horizon 180i color combo unit this year. I was going to get a Garmin 500 series but got this one for about 1/2 price. Plus I can add radar for about 1k and not have to install another screen. I love lowrance products and find them to be the best out there. Just think they are very high priced and i am sure for good reason.
Not sure if I will be sorry I did not get the garmin, or a lowrance i'll let you know.

Good luck.
