Spoke with a Lowrance rep at the AC boatshow. According to him, sometime next month, (March, 2008) They'll have a software update, that will allow 3D map viewing, on all 5 inch models, (GlobalMap) and up! You will need a Platinum chip, and part of the update will allow units, that currently can only use chips up to gold, to use the platinum.
It will not permit 3D sonar viewing on units that do not already have that feature, only GPS map views.
