I recently purchased a used 2020 Freedom 235. Reading through the Owner's Manual I note that the main breaker is a 50 amp located near the battery. While inspecting the boat during the purchase, I took photographs and snapped this shot in the battery compartment. I'm not an expert on a boat's electrical system but does this 200 amp breaker seem excessive? The boat has a windlass. It is wrapped for the winter so have not had chance to investigate hands on. Thanks for any advice.

That may be on the DC side of the boat. Most boats have 30 amp AC (1 phase 120 VAC) or 50 amp AC (2 phase 240 VAC).

It is probably 200 amp DC breaker for a windlass or bow thruster, etc. Relax - enjoy the winter break.

200 amp seems excessive even for a winch. Lewmar 700 spec is 50A. Lewmar 1000 spec is 70A
I agree. I have seen that too. On such a new boat, I would assume it is by design? Why would anyone change?

My 330 has a 300 Amp fuse (Bow Thruster.) The house main is 50 Amps. Check the owners manual, the fuse size is called out in the wire diagram. 1643158357767.png

Its not by design. I'm betting someone replaced it.

You should figure out what that is going to.
Is it the windlass? (what model?)
or is it the the DC Main (12V House)?
I doubt a 235 has a bow thruster.

Is that 6awg wire? no way that should be a 200 amp circiut with a 50ft "round trip".

Can't tell from the photo but if the only connection of positive is the cable on the left than this fusible link is probably appropriate since it will need to be sized for cranking current which can be quite high. That said, the 12v feed for accessories including feeds for windlasses etc that have home runs to the batteries would also need to have separate properly sized overcurrent protection.
