Making an Outboard stand for large OB

There's plenty of pictures out there on the web, just thought I'd share what I did in case anyone would like some more specific details. If anyone's interested, I can give some dimensions. When I lowered the OB down onto the stand and took the weight off the lift, I was pleasantly surprised to hear not even a single creak! I pushed and pulled on the OB as hard as I could and still couldn't get it to squeak or creak. As far as moving it around in the garage, I asked my 6 year old daughter to give it a try and sure enough, she could move it around no problem.

Yes, primarily 4x4's with a few 2x6's. For the motor mounting pad area, at the last second, I decided to add the 1/2" ply on either side of the 2x6's for good luck. All of the 4x4 joints were first secured with lag bolts, then the triangular ply. The triangular plywood is the key to making things like this extra strong. It's more robust than it needs to be, but I tend to subscribe to the "overbuild it or don't build it at all" theory.

I still want to add some shelves to hold a battery and various tools - but that'll come later. The main reason for building this was to make working on it easier - it's my "spare" engine and I needed to swap the stator from this one to the "main" engine on the boat.
