Any suggestions for replacement of the Masthead / Anchor Nav Light mounted on a Hardtop 265 Ex? Anyone seen availability with stainless base and adjustability?

I sucked it up and went OEM through my Grady dealer. I could not find a direct match off the shelf at WM or BOW. Pretty sure it is not stainless but original lasted 10 years and I expect the new one will do the same. You might want to call Grady White and ask them to look up the build sheet for your year and they can give you the vendor and part number. Then ping the web and see what you can find. Good luck.

Hey Brian - that looks like an even better idea. I'm not an electrician - just curious, do you just wire up the new LED light to the existing wiring? Did you find direct replacement size for your red/green nav lights (no new holes to drill)?

Also, I am working on cleaning up my rigging and noticed your clean install - question, where is the primer ball on your stbd motor? Can't see it in the sig photo.

Couldn't be much easier. Remove the old light at the base and you should find two wires (pos & neg) connected to the two wires in the current light fixture. Just disconnect, then install and wire up the new masthead light.

The bow lights from Attwood were almost perfect footprint matches for the OEM lights. Not only did the main wiring hole line up, but I think the fastener holes matched as well. The original lights likely have wires that are long enough to reach down into the anchor locker, and the connections are probably in there. Look there, disconnect, remove the old fixtures, install the new ones and reconnect. The wiring in the locker is also likely wire-tied to the overhead on each side, so be sure to refasten it.

Here are the Attwood "side lights". http://www.attwoodmarine.com/store/product/3530. You may find the two in the bulk package, or have to get them separately.
2-NM LED Red/Green Pair Bulk Pkg: 3550-1 Aftermarket separate packages: 3550R7/3550G7

Here is a source for them: http://search.defender.com/?expression=attwood led

I strongly recommend the 2nm lights, instead of the 1nm versions.

As to the primer bulbs, you don't see them because all my fuel lines are run through the rigging tubes and the bulbs are accessible under the drop in bin on the port side of the transom.

Happy to answer any more questions you may have.

Thanks for the info. My masthead light has 3 wires, assume 2 hot leads for Nav / Anchor position on rocker switch and one ground. You note two wires, different setup?

I accidently knocked my mast head light in some low trees recently on my 265 while trailering, Im waiting on a Perko 1184DP0CHR 12" replacement for my stock light I ordered, seems like a similar base for easy swap, but the part I like the best is it uses the same bulbs DP 71's as my bow lights, so i can have a set of 1 type bulbs as standbys to fit all the lights.

Plus Ive seen LED replacement bulbs on ebay for the 71's for $20 each, not ready to by those yet, but could be a nice upgrade sometime, atleast with this light I'll have the options.

Have to look at the manual to see the wiring diagram. Our Islander has a switch with NAV-OFF-ANCHOR positions, but only one positive and one negative wire to the all-around light.

I would try connecting both your positive leads to the one positive lead on the light. This would give you a 360* light when either lead is powered. If this causes the side lights to also be lit when the switch is in "Anchored" position, due to a common power lead, then installing a small diode in the "Running Lights" lead to the masthead light will solve that issue.

I considered installing LED bulbs before I went with LED lights, but decided not to because most of my problems with navigation lights were not due to burnt out bulbs, but due to poor contact between the festoon bulb and the bulb holder. This always required opening the light and cleaning the contacts in the light and on the bulb. Using LED bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs would not have solved this problem. The LED lights do not have replaceable bulbs - everything is sealed and completely waterproof, and the lights have a l-o-n-g life expectancy.
