Guys,
I have a repower guestion for you.
I have a 1983 245 Tournament Edition DC. This boat has had the tramson modified from the original design that had a bracket that allowed the motor to tilt inside of the tramson. All that has been changed to a regular grady bracket.
I am now running a 1999 225 Mercury 2 stroke and would like to step up a bit on power with a used 4 stroke.
What would be the max HP I could put on this rig? Or who would I contact at Grady White for tec help in this arena?
Thanks in advance for the feed back.

:uhm The 243 was rated at 280 hp, don't think I'd fudge on that unless you're real comfortable with the transom job and bracket installation ...

Thanks Curmudgeon for the info.
I did not want to over max the rating.
Will probably go with a 250 HP.
Where did you go to find the max rating for this model?
Thanks.

Weren't the ratings gross not net in '83? 280 gross is less than 250 net, I'd go over everything (transom, strigers, knees,...) before hanging a 250 on the back. A 250 4 stroke will give more top end but the same or possibly less holeshot than the 225 2 stroke. Plus how does it sit now with the bracket? What changes with another 200 pounds do to the ride as well as the way it sits?
