Hi my brother and i were looking at this boat that a guy is selling us. we really dont know much about boats and we really need help deciding. a guy is selling us this boat for $2,500 (we can probably drop it to 2 grand).. the guy just wants to get rid of it because its taking up space... What kind of repairs would we be looking at and around how much?... is it worth the $2,500? Any help would be appreciated.... Oh btw does anybody happen to know the model and yr of the boat?... thanks the links are here for the pics

Looks like a mid-80s Tournament 224. Pull the hull number off the upper right exterior transom and call Grady. Assuming the motor/outdrive are completely shot, both can be replaced with remans for under $5000. But you can easily nickle and dime several thousand replacing this and that. I'd look real closely (or have someone who knows) at the transom, deck hatches, fuel tanks, and stringers (boat ribs). If it's solid, just the tower might be worth a couple of grand ...

I would also consider a Gradydrive/transome bracket & an outboard engine. This will give more room on the inside and may save some cash. Just a thought.

Definitely a mid 1980s Tournament. Many thousands of $$$$ and effort will be required to make this boat safe and seaworthy again. Charge the owner $100 to haul it away and he will be getting a bargain.

Yes . . . . and you will love it.

The newer 225 Tournaments are terriffic. If you are near Boston, the New England Boat Show starts February 20th where you can see the Grady White Tournaments as well as the entire Grady White boat line and many other manufacturers.

Yes, you do need a boat around 30 feet for that distance. Grady White makes several models of the dual console Tournament all the way up to 30 feet. Check the Grady White web site and you can see each model.

My favorite is the 275 Tournament. I don't think you want go any smaller for the trips you are planning.
Tashmoo is a poster on this web site and can tell you all about ocean fishing in the 275 Tournament.
