New fuel tanks - Grounding Question

Hey Germanmatlanta,
I recently replaced the fuel tank, including all the hoses and fittings, on my Seafarer 228. In your picture of the fuel sender (see below) I do not see an anti-siphon valve attached to the brass elbow going to the fuel pick-up. Was there one on the OEM install? There was on one mine (see pic).
My service advisor informed me that having one is a USCG requirement. § 183.568 Anti-siphon protection. I'm sure this reply will generate lots of discussion.

Not "overkill" at all!

Yes, an AS valve is very important whether it's a mechanical or an electrical one. Even if all the fuel line is currently above the tank, there's a possibility (granted, a VERY small one) it could drop below tank level.

I've read that opponents to it say it's better to not have it because it can get gummed up over time - but that can happen to anything in the fuel system (moreso if the fuel isn't treated). We shouldn't eliminate it because we don't want to do some easy maintenance - especially knowing how disastrous the result could be. It's kind of like saying "I don't wear a seat bet because I don't want to get stuck in the car after an accident."
