This Saturday, weather permitting, I have a wedding in Ocean City, NJ. My slip is in Belmar, NJ. Has anyone taken this or a similar trip and if so, can you give me an estimate on travel time? I will be entering Great Egg inlet and docking at the soon to be bride family's home.

Any tips are appreciated as well! Thanks.

A quick look at chart 12300 shows it to be about 66nm running from sea buoy to sea bouy from Shark River Inlet to Great Egg Inlet. Should be a nice run along the shore, just a few miles off.

I have sailed along that coast several times, most recently in May 2010 with a sailboat delivery from Essex, CT to Virginia Beach, VA.

Thanks Brian! By any chance do you have that chart handy to give me the Coordinates to the Great Egg Bouy? My charts are on the boat and I am not at the shore right now. I'd like to plot the course at home if possible.

Thanks again,

Thanks again,

40*11.1N / 074*00.0W SHARK RIVER INLET

40*05.5N / 074*00.8W MANASQUAN INLET

39*44.5N / 074*03.8W BARNEGAT INLET

39*28.8N / 074*12.8W LITTLE EGG INLET

39*18.9N / 074*24.0W ABSECON INLET

39*16.2N / 074*31.9W GREAT EGG HARBOR INLET

Note: I gave you all the outer sea buoy coordinates for these inlets. These are 1.5-4nm off the shore, and you may prefer to run further off. However, straight lines between these points should keep you in water of at least three fathoms, and usually a lot more.

Also, you can not run directly from Shark River to Great Egg, due to the curvature of the NJ coast.. :D

Just a follow-up to my trip. Saturday was absolutely gorgeous out there. We made good time at about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Stopped at Barnaget for about 10 minutes to talk to my neighbor who slips his boat boat there and was fishing out front. Also stopped at A.C. to see the new Casino they are building. All in all it was a perfect day to run down the coast.

On the other side of the trip we left at noon on Sunday. Not as pleasant a ride as Saturday. Winds picked up, seas built to 4-6 with the unexpected 8 footer just to keep things interesting. Took us 4 hours to get home. A bit wet but considering the conditions the boat handled great.

Brian, thanks for the coordinates which allowed me to plan ahead and give my full attention to the task at hand! Much appreciated. :goodjob

Ed,

Glad to hear it worked out well for you, even if the trip home was a bit snotty.

Also glad that I was a help in your planning.

The bride's family has a house on the lagoon in Ocean City. These people are just the nicest folks you could meet. I actually docked at their neighbor's house. As I arrived the neighbor greeted me by tieing me up and offering a hose to flush the engines and wash the boat, drinks and the head if needed. Just great community on the lagoon.

Before leaving Sunday the bride's father offered the slip to me during vacation. We vacation in Sea Isle City for two weeks every year. I normally don't bring the boat because it is a hassle with traffic and parking. I will certainly rethink my plans next year.
