Hey guys, new member here. Just bought 84 224 project. 224 is what nameplate in boat says, but couldnt find it in registration for this site when it asked what model boat you own. Probably won't matter. I've had my eye on this boat for bout 5 years as it has been sitting in a nearby town on blocks forever finally talked to owner and made a deal. Lucky me. I have learned a lot about these older Grady's from this site as my interest grew, so I was prepared for the rot in the transom that I found as I started stripping the motor compartment last nite. Boat came very complete and seemingly original and unmolested. Has been sitting for 8 +/- years and ran well when retired so the owner says. Motor does turn over with breaker bar on crank...... Surprised me. Omc stringer drive will come off along with engine. I will try to post some pics this weekend and this hardware is for sale as I am planning on replacing with bracket and outboard after hull is done. Don't mean to ramble but would really like to hear some input from those with more experience than myself. I will replace gas tank, inspect and replace stringers and floor as needed etc. this will be my first attempt at fiberglass, but have friends in the business and will rely on them for advice and guidence until they start dodging my calls. Seems like these boats are plentiful in the 190 version, but the 22 footers are pretty rare in this configuration, especially the older ones. Does this sound right? Would love to see some pics of similar boats. Anyway, thanks for any thoughts, advice, etc and hopefully my next post or two will have more pics and less words

congrats and welcome to the tournament club. if you go to the grady white website and then to customer resources you will find catalogues back to1984 you can download. the 223, 224 and 225 model numbers in those days distinguished between the transom/power options for the larger 22 tournament. i came close to buying a 1985 223 before i got my 94. i prefer the teak trim on the older boat.

Well, got back to it today. Started by pulling gas tank, no leaks and looks surprisingly good. Probably will replace anyway, 30 years old. Cut out fiberglass on inside of stringers by gas tank. Stringers wet at least up to middle of gas tank area. Bulkhead between tank and engine area soaked. Even though floors on either side felt solid, cut floor out between fish boxes and rear seats. Outside stringers looked great, small amount of moisture port side top of stringers, not very much at all, good news. Sat back, drank beer, cut out entire back liner. I will get pics posted shortly but I have to wait till my wife or son can do it. If I forgot to mention, transom is rotten and needs replaced, so this will make it easy to get to. Will rebuild and reinforce to accept outboard bracket, and put in full floor with no removable panels. Makes no sense to have unnessasary holes in floor. That's what leads to the problems we are dealing with now. To be fair though, the under floor area around outside stringers looked a hell of a lot better than I thought it would from hearing some of the horror stories bout Grady's.
