Hello all, I just purchased a 94 25' Sailfish. Great boat. I have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer. First, I have never kept a boat in the water before. With the small amount of water that seems to stand around the forward and aft bilges, is there any danger of damaging the pumps if the water freezes? Second, the built in battery charger has a loud "hum" to it, normal? And last, the corrugated rigging hoses to each Yamaha outboard are cracked and exposing the cables and hoses within. Anyone know a good place to get new hose?

Thanks all and good luck with the rest of the Striper season!!

Hello,
Congrats on the new boat.

I have a 27' Sailfish and am very happy with everything about it.

To answer your questions,

My charger hum's as well, not what you might call loud but you can hear it.

If your going to leave the boat in the water you may want to pour some Windshield Washer Fluid in the bilge to keep the standing water from freezing.(Good to -20 degrees or so) Maybe apply some more after a rain. A gallon at Wal-mart I think is under $2.00.

As far as the outer casing's being cracked, I would replace them. Better to keep them from the weather as much as possible. I would check on-line or at West Marine to locate the replacements.

Just My $.02

Good Luck,
VC

I agree, replace the corregated tube. I did mine a few years ago and got the flanged fitting and the hose off ebay. Google rigging tubing.

Hi and congratulations on your new boat. I am a new Grady owner as of last August (95, 268 Islander) and I absolutely love it.
I had a bizzillion questions from the get-go and am probably down to about a million now.
One awesome resource for learning about the engine, gauges, fuel/oil supply etc. is Shipyard Isl. Marine Engine Parts, ask for Andy. They have a site on the THT forum (thehulltruth.com) which you are probably signed up with? Anyway you can go to http://www.simyamaha.com for your corrugated rigging tubes, Andy sells the blue and black ones and you can get them by the foot vs a huge roll like I have seen at other places (click on "rigging" on the home page).

Tell Andy that Andy with the twin 200 HPDI's from Jersey sent you (no financial gain for me).

Best of luck, where are you located?

I currently have the boat in Richmond, VA, but will be moving to the Chesapeake, not sure where yet, probably Norfolk. Take care.
