I purchased a 226 Seafarer time capsule. Not a single modification to the boat by previous owner. Maintained as well as could be maintained. Perfect! Except all of the outdated equipment. I started a list. A long list of improvements to be made.

First to be tackled was the electronics. Boat had the original Furuno FCV-667 color video sounder, state of the art in 1995. As well as a Garmin GPSMAP 215.

Could not get them out fast enough. Replaced with a Lowrance HDS12 with Sonarhub and a Airmar B75H thruhull chirp transducer. The MFD was mounted in the electronics box, Sonarhub, in cuddycabin on the back of the electronics box and the transducer on the starboard side in the bilge.

In the radio box is a Lowrance HDS8 networked to the HDS12 and of course a VHF radio. There is a Raytheon radar original to the boat that I may use or replace with a Lowrance G3 or G4 later on.

Added a Clarion stereo after fabbing a new gauge panel out of 1/4” black starboard. Box speakers in side consoles. Just a side note, it is nearly impossible to route wire to port side console. Caused me much pain. Added USB port on starboard side console and wiring to port side console for usb or 12v accessory port. Have not installed it yet, not sure my fishing partner has earned it yet.

Still have wiring to clean up. Taking it out tomorrow for a shakedown run.

Let us know how the tru-hull transducer goes.
Looking at adding a 1kw thru-hull to my 228.

Nice work LT!! I actually enjoyed gutting mine when I bought it. I had a vision of how I wanted everything and the original stuff wasn't in that vision. Most of my stuff is in, but I continue to fine tune.

That right there is "OCD Vision" and Ky has it down to an art. My advice to the OP is follow his lead and it'll be new once done. Nice work. and congrats

Ky, that looks familiar. A labor of love.

I did not get out on Sunday as I’d hoped. Waiting on some parts for the kicker that were supposed to arrive on Saturday. So just continued on with cleaning the brightwork and windows and continued general field day. Replaced the door catches at the dam, anchor locker and removed and cleaned radio and electronics doors.

Found the matching gasket for the electronics and cuddy cabin doors on eBay, cheap! Works great.

I’m considering closing in my lower electonics box with Starboard on my ‘02 226 and flush mounting my plotter. Just hoping that 4-6 bolts though the opening of the dash will be sufficient. I didn’t want to glass over the opening.

Alot of people have done that. I like the idea of locking the expensive electronics up. You know, keeping the honest, honest. It is also a nice waterproof storage for wallet and other valuables. my 12” mfd is clearly viewable while standing or sitting mounted in box with door open or closed.

I used starboard to create a mount for the two Garmin units on my 226.

This is what I did on my 87 226.
