I am wondering what kind of range i can expect from my newtome boat. 1990 overnighter 204 with a newly rebuilt 150 yamaha. tank is 80 gallons. has trim tabs. im trying to get out after albacore this year which are usually 40-50 miles out. and am thinking i may need to add some fuel tanks. thanks.

Range is kinda guesswork until you figure it out with your own setup because there are so many factors involved.
Assuming your boat, motor and prop are all tuned, begin with . . . hp/10 = gallons burned/hour at cruise (3500rpm).

That aside, you are probably looking at a range around 150-160 miles, right on the edge for your trip if you use the 30%out, 30%back, 30%reserve rule, not including actually fishing.

I would be more comfortable with another 20-30 gallons onboard.

I used to have a 20 Overnighter with 200 4 Stroke. I have been 42 miles offshore (Gulf winter flat seas) and the total burn was 35 gallons. You have more range than you can stand. Just watch the weather....

hi
I have a 1989 G.W. 204 Overnighter with a 1997 150 Yamaha SWS2

I figure it to be between 2+ and 3 mpg at cruise. I just got a fuel flow meter and need to connect it up to my GPS. I will have more accurate numbers in about 4 weeks. Nice big fuel tank on these boats.
