-My 2001 Gulfstream has an OX66 250 on it. On the back of the cowling it says "V250 OX66 Fuel injection: Side says Saltwater Series 2, OX66 Fuel Injection.
-On a friends 1997,Gulfstream, his engine says "V 76 degree 250 Electronic Fuel Injection" on back, Saltwater Series 2 on the side.. My older Seafarer with carb only 225 said V76 degree too.
-I know there were progressions in these engines, but are they the 250s the same?

Towing a tube. Is it safe to tow a single person on a tube from the rear gunnel cleats? I've read yes and no in several places. The eyes on the back are too low to tow the tube without it plowing under, even with a float on the tow rope.

thanks in advance for any responses....

2nd full season with the Gulfstream. ITS GREAT. I'm also switching to Pennzoil marine synthetic blend XLF oil from Yamalube if anyone wants to discuss.

i think v76 efi is the vmax non-salt water version but it would be essentially the same motor with same block and it would have the same efi system. on the evinrude/johnsons the non-salt water motors have parts that rust. don't know if there is any difference with yamahas.

are you sure you have the tube properly rigged ? usually it gets towed under if you have rigged it so the line connects to the tube too low. you can tube safely using the mooring cleats but the problem will be the yoke line will rub on the transom and might damage the gelcoat.

Yup, the aft cleats are PLENTY strong enough for pulling a few people on a tube. Anybody that says otherwise is likely just regurgitating information that they "heard" somewhere else... sort of like "Whisper down the alley". Unfortunately, it's all too easy to find mis-information on the internet. Whatever happened to the good 'ol days when you could physically ask someone a question and get an honest, experienced answer in return?

Google "sportsstuff booster ball" for use with your stern eyes.

Both engines are Saltwater Series 2. I'd load pictures if I could figure out out to drag and drop or load from computer...

I also read that the rear cleats are only held on by gunnel fiberglass and won't hold.... Seems they would be strong enough, especially with weight distributed between two. On my last boat, I tied rops to hard top rails and that caused a crack.... DUMB!

the chromed cleats on 14' fibreglass lake boats from the 1960s that are held on with 1/4" non-stainless studs do this same job with no issues.
