painting trim tabs

When I researched this several years ago, the Bennet site recommended an etching two part stainless steel primer followed by bottom paint. That may have been before the water based paints were available.
Paint doesn't stick very well to stainless.
In general copper based paints are a no no on metal tabs. Pettit Hydrocoat is copper based but Pettit Hydrocoat ECO is not.
Of course there is always propspeed but where Hydrocoat ECO is expensive, Propspeed is really expensive
Interlux had this to say:
Hello. We do not recommend putting a copper base paint such as Micron CSC on
stainless trimtabs. We would suggest you remove it all, wipe with 202
solvent, sand with 80 grit and rewipe with 202 solvent. Next, apply 1 coat
of Vinylux PrimeWash # 353/354 followed by 2 coats of Primocon primer #
YPA984.
Finally, apply 2-3 coats of Trilux with Biolux,
The above paints are also somewhat expensive.
On MyotherBoat, I have painted tabs, regular bottom paint (copper based) over barrier coated tabs. Those tabs do not have zincs. I think that makes a difference.
If I had to paint new tabs, I would probably go the Primocon prep kit follwed by something like Trilux 33
