Posting here too. Thanks to FL Marine Plastics for the info!
Hi Folks,
I've been struggling with how to address fishing tackle - raw storage capacity, storing on the boat, carrying things on off the boat, ease of finding and accessibility. I had a couple of softbags that the zippers were gummed up and a big hard case tackle box.
There was a tip from FL Marine Plastics that Home Depot is selling 14" Plano organizers with the hinged pro-latch in a 3 pack for $10. I got a couple and started to to dig into my 3 tackle boxes. By the time I finished, I filled the 6 organizers and have a ton of stuff left. Not even close to being enough. Plus I had stuff in multiple places and stuff I didn't even know I had in pockets all over the place.
I stopped by HD tonight after work and decided to go all in. I got (4) more 3 packs for a total of 18 total trays. I found a Husky 18" tool bag (#258 028) for $19 that will hold (albeit vertically nine of the trays). I bought two of the bags. The bag have two heavy hand grabs, which will be a bit tough to handle when filled with the nine trays. It has a shoulder strap so you can carry it that way too.
Another option is to place 6 trays and lay them down horizontally (they fit both ways in the bag). You can even mix them, 6 horizontally and 2 vertically on the ends if desired.
I think between the two bags capable of holding 6, 8 or 9 trays in each, plus the four on board trays built into the Marlin below the rigging station that I can switch in and out with, I have more than enough storage for tackle. It will address most of my tackle issues.
Total Cost: $100, ($60 for the 18 organizers and $40 for the two bags).
