Just put two new 250 Four Strokes on my Grady came with 21"Props.
I was asked if i wanted 19" i have not been able to run my boat yet just comeing home from over seas. Anyone have same set up,should i have gotten the 19"?

21's sound steep. They recommended 21's?

Marlin

I have 1997 Marlkin with the 225 Yamaha four strokes and I have 17's on mine. Runs great, no issues at all. Great out of the hole and cruise 23K at 3,900 burning 15/ hr.

I have Yamaha 19" SWS II on my boat 06 marlin with F250s. I would not want a different size if you offered them to me for free. I can spin them up to 6000 most of the time. When fully loaded for a canyn run I can 'only' spin the motors to about 5700 rpm. Plenty of punch to get on plane fast as well.

One minor thing with your boat, accordin to the Grady brochures, your boat is a little lighter than mine. I doubt it is more than 200-300 lbs. bt I guess if you never head offshore loaded with fuel, ice, five big guys, etc. you may get away with 21" props, but I doubt you would be happy.

I think they come stock with a 19" prop for the F250 on new boats.

my thanks to everyone,it is nice to be able to ask questions and get great response. i will talk with dealer; i was asked if i wanted 21s or 19s not knowing any better i took the 21s.i do run off shore a lot and do have some heavy duty friends (Big Beer Drinkers)LOL. i still have my porps off the HPD250s i think they are 17s (may turn too many RPMs)will they work on the four strokes?

Your HPDI and F250 props will interchange. The 17's may be a little on the low side (again depends on the seas you go into and the load) but I think they'll be better than the 21's. You don't want to lug the motors.

Just spotted this topic and it's right up my alley. I have a 305 Express with the 250's spinning the 19" SS11 props. I was going to call Grady this coming week to ask about performance.

I can't get above 5400 with these props no matter how I trim or what I do. I had 17's on my previous Marlin and was able to get 5800 on them.

I do carry lots of gear. Probably way more than most. The last time I weighed the boat on the trailer, after deducting trailer weight I figured it at around 13,500 lbs.

So I'm thinking I might need to go back to the 17's to get my full WOT range. Thoughts????

Bobcat25, Last summer, I went to looking at probably about 6 or 7 300 Marlins, and same number of 282 Sailfish, specifically to see what props they were running. The Sailfish all had 17" 3-blade Yamahas, and the Marlins had 19's. My Sailfish came with 19's, and it is over-propped. Thats why I went looking.

If you are interested in swapping your 19's for 17's, PM me. Mine are Yamaha Saltwater Series props (not II).

Hoghunter,
i had just talk to Grady White people and was told i needed to be running 19"SS11 not 21s. you say you were running 17s on your Marlin
i wouild had thought 17 would turn up to many RPM. on your 19"what does the SS11 mean?
Capt Bill,
you ask if i would be willing to swap my 19s Sir i have the new 21s and my old props off my sailfish are 17s just had them tuned up had a couple dings. that Sailfish was a great boat only had the Marlin since Jan.08 but been in Baghdad,Iraq and have not been able to run it as much as i wanted to; just put the new four strokes on and am leaving for home in four days i have had enough of Iraq i am taking the summer off.

Bobcat25, I understand that your 17's are the one's from your old boat, and that you can't use them on your Marlin. That's why I thought abot a swap, but my 19's are not the SWS series II; (heavier-duty props, which I think they are .25" larger in diameter than SWS I props). Mine probably wouldn't be the best choice for your Marlin.

Thank you for your service, and have a safe trip back home.

Bobcat, the Marlin came with 17's when purchased. This was on the Yamaha 225's.

Even with 17's on the Marlin I never got above 5800 rpm at WOT.

My Express 305 came with the 19's and my maximum WOT is 5400 rpms.

SS11 meant the Saltwater Series 2 props.

I have a 28 Marlin and had 19's on them and switched to 17's ran much better. I do have two sets of 19's if you would liek to try a set, if they work for you, I can give you a great deal.

I am in Shamong, NJ keep the boat in Cape may.
