It depends on your intentions. The open array costs a LOT more, is heavier and takes more space. But, you can getter longer range and more importantly, much better target separation.
If you want to be looking for birds, the array is really the only way to go. If you want to just see other boats, land or objects in reduced visibility (darkness, fog, rain), the dome works great.
