Hi everyone, got my 283 release, which currently has a Northstar 6000i plotter in the helm. I am going to add radar, and have come down to getting the Fururno VX2 10" unit. I have no more room inthe helm box, so I am going to have to make a panel and flush mount it above the helm in the electronics box. I would like to get some opinions about this set up. I also have my Furuno FF and Auto pilot in the lower station and moving those would add mucho dollars to the project!

Thanks
Peter

Radar

I have my Furuno unit installed in the overhead in my Seafarer. I think if it is just radar you are okay, but if it is all ie. radar, GPS, fishfinder etc. then at the end of the day, your neck is painful. I find that at the end of 8 hours fishing and using the overhead I can barely move my head. If you only have the radar then you only have to look up once in a while. Dwain

What concerns to do have going up there?

After all, that's why the (electronics) box is up there.

radar

I guess my concern is having to look up to see the radar image.

How often do you use radar ? Hopefully not often , so not much of a neck issue.

How many other choices do you have?

Besides surface mounting on console?

If anything needs to go up on top, pick the radar.

Who looks at radar screen continuously? Seems too boring for me.

By the way, I've had everything up top for 10 yrs, I've had it too, besides neck it's eyes.

All I can fit on console is gimbal mount Furuno FF, flush mount Garmin 4208, radio remote flusg, and sirius p&p tuner.

Had to leave radar and VHF upstairs. If not for the radar, I'd get rid of the hardtop box altogether for improved field of vision.
