Reel Draggin' Tackle Fish Report

The Canyon Draggin' left OC at 5am, clearing the inlet with the rest of the departing fleet. We were greated with nearly flat sea conditions and very light winds. When we turned around as saw the number of boats that split right to head to Lumpy and left to Massey area it looked like the wild west gold runs. We decided that any bite uo there was going to be an early bite, there would be lots of pressure. A short discussion with my crew, Bob Sutton and Joe Weschler, and we decided to put the hammer down and run 35 to 40 KTS out. When we got to the lines in point we were about 20 min ahead of the fleet, lines in and WAM we get several short hits before one comes tight and a 34" BFT is on ice. We were fishing a 68 to 71.4 degree break and thought for sure Mr. big would be there. By 9:30 we were combat fishing, so we pushed off to the Tea Cup where we picked up a small Mahi. At 11:30 we made a run for the Baltimore. Once inside we found a pod of 78 degree water onthe west wall with squid, birds, turtles, sunfish, jelly fish, ya everything but TUNA! We worked that area for the rest of the day without a solid hookup. We did have a a few short strikes but that was it. We called it a day at 2pm and ran 35 kts back in. Sorry, no pictures this trip.
