I've been meaning to pull the bearing carriers on my Yammies for a while, as the grease fittings on the rear of the carriers will not take grease, and I thought I'd try to remedy that while I'm doing my winter maintenance. My Yamaha Service manual shows using a slide hammer with adapter on the prop shaft to remove the carrier and prop shaft as one unit, but everywhere I look on the internet people suggest using a puller to draw the carrier over the shaft. I'd rather not damage my lower unit by experimenting... Which method is correct? BTW, I tried pumping grease W/O the carrier mounting bolts in place.
