hi all.....i have a 93 gulfstream....i am going to replace main tank sending unit going with the WEMA setup from the post I have seen here that is the best choice......question is.....does anyone know how long it neeeds to be.....the tank is the 96 gal.,,,,or if i call WEMA will they know.....would like to order ahead of time and have it in hand before taking the old one out.....thanks

Buster,
I just replaced the two WEMA sending units on my 330 Express. On the top of the sending unit there are several numbers/marks. One of the numbers will be the length of the sending unit - in my case I had a 25" and a 26".
If there is no such number, you can take out the sending unit and measure from the very bottom of the steel rod to the mounting flange - that will be the length that you need.
All else fails - give the WEMA folks a call. They were very helpful and actually sell the sending units.

Make sure you index the bolt holes to ease reinstallation.
Withdraw the sender slowly as it holds fuel that can leak into the bilge.

Buster,
Taking the sending unit in and out is very easy. Just the 5 (or was it 6?) phillips head screws. Biggest challenge is not dropping a screw in or around the tank that you can't recover (they are stainless so a magnet is not an option). Also, if like mine, there are white plastic washers that you will want to make sure you don't lose.
As mentioned, the screw holes in the sending unit and rubber gasket only line up one way. But not a big deal - you just have to key spinning the sending unit/gasket around until all the holes line up.
While you have it out, take a flashlight and give the inside of the tank a good look-see.

Why are you replacing the sending unit? I only ask that because when I yanked and cleaned the main tank in my Gulfstream I removed the old sending unit and replaced it with a new one and now I have fuel weepeing around the srew heads when I fill the tank all the way..by the way, the sending units are adjustable to the depth of the tank...

Well,all is well,don't need to replace sending unit after all, ended up being a bad ground wire,guess that's why my gauge was all over the place. I thank all for the input though. I picked up this boat at the end of July and still in the process of learning.
