Thinking about re powering my 2001 232 twin 150 HPDI to a single 4 stroke 300HP. Wondering if anyone has done this or can it be done with the pod that I have now? The cost to re power with twins is out of my range. Also wondering what the used market is for 2001 150 HPDI's with 500 hours?

Anyone out there done this?

thanks

Only 500 hours? They're still just getting broken it!

Why the need to repower? If you're repowering because there are issues with the engine, then your question about market value for them doesn't hold much merit since the answer is "not much". Other thought: fixing the engines - even a new/reman powerhead will still bring you out on top. You can also look around and find a matched set of used twins where someone upgraded to larger engines.

I agree with Dennis if your motors are running good why replace them. especially converting to a single. im pretty sure your drive bracket will need changed out because it will not accept a single engine. so you spending that money too. you will lose the twin engine maneuverability plus the value if you ever sell your boat. most people prefer 232 Gulfstreams to have twins.

Agree with the part about manuverability. That big 9'3" beam with a single on a bracket is a handful around the dock (especially in reverse).

even selling your twins and buying that single 300 hp plus the bracket change is going to cost you some money. instead of repowering take the money you would have spent and put fuel in the tank and go enjoy your boat. I would love to own a 232.

I guess I should contact Grady re the bracket change? A single 300 would be around 24K and twin 150's would be 34K I would think. I should be able to get 6 to 8K for the HPDI's as they are solid. Not to concerned about docking as I have a huge slip and can get in and out without any issues at all. Another option is to sell and find a single and repower? 2001 with twins HPDI's should be 30's to 40's I would think. Thanks for the responses.

If the 2001's are "solid" as you say, how about waiting until they're not? Could be another 500 hours left in them...who knows. I understand that you have no docking problems at your own slip, but if you go to other marinas, gas docks, restaurants etc with a single , that may not be the case. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I had a Gulf. Great boat my personal take is it is very hard to handle when docking in the wind or current.(I found it hard to dock with twins if the wind was above 20) If you want a single you might consider a different Grady. That is just my take. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
