I know the specs say 500 HP is the max on this year and model, but I have heard of others re-powering with 300's because of the lighter weight. I contacted Grady and they said that the max HP was rated based on the biggest 4 stroke available at the time. Because it has not been tested/rated for higher HP, they cannot recommend anything beyond what the test data shows.

So, how big can I go? Anyone have any experience with this issue?

This was me 3 years ago. I did not own and was asking pre purchase. I begged and hounded and the final decision was just that. Max was 500hp. In 2004 they raised to 600hp with no modifications to the hull I have been told and read numerous times. In 2008 they upped to 700 for the new F350 BUT they did some major work to the transom to accommodate the extra weight

I DID buy a 2006 with F250 and immediately did a F300 repowered. 450 hours later never regret.

Tough call going over because of insurance
